Last week I started the tests for a small device, the Novatel MiFi 2352, which is actually a very compacy UMTS wireless router.
You need a separate SIM card with Internet data transfer (a flat rate would be better), in the meanwhile below 20€ per month. And then, with this router, you can create a wireless network for up to 5 Laptops / printers / WiFi cards.
The device works on battery as well (about 4 hours long) and recharge via USB plug.
I let it be tested in the car while we were driving on the motorway toward nord Germany and, depending on the kind of network coverage, it works very stable and reliable.
It costs around 220€ and is really a device for bringing the Internet everywhere.

Ciao, Io da un anno uso un nokia e55 con un software da 15euro che trasforma il cel in una sorta di router wifi da 3,5g. Avevo letto le prime news su questi mini router portatili, ma facendo due calcoli, 300euro più tariffa per questi cosi introvabili in italia, contro 100e di nokia e 15 di software , considerando anche che in mano mi rimane un vero cellulare e non un device capace di fare solo una cosa, mi hanno convinto ad optare per il nokia. Sarà perchè non è uno dei nokia più veloci, ma con il macbook o l'ipod touch raggiungo discreti valori di download, tali da permettermi di leggere la posta e i siti mentre sono in autobus o a lezione, ma anche di scaricare al volo un file da decine di mb se mi serve. Secondo me il costo eccessivo del device è il suo maggior limite.
Il problema è che parecchie compagnie telefoniche bloccano la funzione. E la mia è tra quelle..
